PH LOW ... Help!

Overnight is fine. There is really only one reason for low ph and that is co2 wether its caused by a dirty tank or trapped co2 in the home. Either way it will only go so low and probably will never drop to a level of concern. It takes alot of co2 to get to that point. People worry about ph because they can. The ph meter is the worst thing for new reefer to own. The quickest safest fix for low ph is to take the battery out of your ph meter.

thanks for the correction and my question as well. If ph shouldn't be a concern, should it be alkalinity? If alk is good, then it is assumed that ph is good as well?

Pretty much, keep alk and other parameters in line and dont stress over ph. Use ph for what it is. Its just one tool, and once you learn your tanks ph trend you can stress out if you see a drastic change in the trend. Dont jump through hoops trying to hit that magic number, most of the time you have no control anyways. When you try to control the uncontrolable you just cause more problems.

I personally check alk levels more than anything else. It does help with the ph management a bit but as has been said C02 is a big player there also.

Yea, I didn't know that before. I do have a fan by the window circulating the air in the room. I find that it's my alkalinity that drops the fastest, so I mainly focus on that too.

This is off topic but, if the water is heavily overskimmed can that have adverse affects on the quality of the water?

Overskimmed, is that a word? Just kidding around. Not really possible to overskim unless of course you are keeping animals that lve in dirtier water.

I don't have any of those animals :p Thanks, I was just thinking that beneficial elements in the water could be removed.
