I have a couple of pics of what looks like some sort of macroalgae. It has all of the coloring of coraline algae and is slow growing. It is has a slippery feel and is not brittle. An ideas?

Almost looks like it could be Red Gracillia. If you're wanting to get it out of your tank, I'd be happy to take it off your hands. I'd love to have some of that growing in my tanks.

Well, I looked up the red gracilia and the pics above don't fit very well. The specimen is quiet purple and not branching-more leafy. I'm stumped.

Well, I got a response from the guys at wetwebmedia--its a sponge. How cool.

Yup, that is for sure a sponge, sometimes called Ear or Saucer sponges but alos grow like vases. Look for Lanthella sponges
