Folks,
I have decided to build my new aquarium using Silent and Fail-Safe Aquarium technique (that's the only name I could find) on http://www.beananimal.com/projects/silent-and-fail-safe-aquarium-overflow-system.aspx.

I am looking for plumbing supplies like bulkhead, union valve and other things. What's the best recommendation for buying these? Does some aquarium store carry it or do I need to order online?

Thanks
Ghazni

Hi Ghanzni,

Just about all the PVC and John Guest supplies can be found at Home depot with exception to the bulkheads. I've bought my bulkheads from Blue Sierra, and Barrier Reef.

Bulkheads at savko, aquaticecosystems, marine depot, etc.

True unions should be available at lowes. You don't need them and can use a plane old ball valve, but the true unions make life easier. You can also use a regular ball valve and a standard union. Just remember to upsize the union by one pipe size and then bush it back down to the desired pipe size. Why? Because most of the unions have a smaller inside diameter than the bushing and other regular plumbing fittings.

The true unions at Lowes and HD DO NOT completely shut off. I would never buy them again. I would highly recommend SAVKO for all plumbing fittings except for drain screens. Those I would get from Aquatic-Eco. And ball valves bite.

Ghazni---I do commercial plumming applications for pools, spa and laundry. The plumming fittings our company uses is called, which
includes the plus signs is: (and they Kick ASS)

I get mine though the company I work for, but attached is a link, check around for pricing as I did not do that.

Ps Jonathan- They even make explosive proof gate valves, for your more hands on hobbiest:lol:
