Hey all those who live around the Sound. I'm planning on doing a local coldwater tank (temp's in the 40's-50's) and probably doing intertidal type fauna. I'm curious what some of your suggestions are on lighting for this type of tank? Everything on the net (ironically, from people who don't seem to live in a coldwater area) seems to think that everything in colder waters is non-photosynthetic and say just use enough light to view. However, I'm not sure these people have ever seen the types of algea and whatnot that crowd out a lot of pools up here.

Other than algae, is there much that really demands much light that I might be finding?

For a Puget Sound tank, I dont know about the light but you'll need some beer cans, broken glass and a few used tires for the substraight.

I don't Know sorry but have you tried the seattle aquarium for info I'd go upstairs where they sell saltwater and just ask or just call anyway it's just an idea good luck:)

ROFL Don!!!

That was pretty funny

I would think that a 60 watt light bulb in the next room will be more than enough light I don't know how to make all the artificial rain indoors

Thanks for the all the helpful info everyone. It's been absolutely invaluable.

For the Local Coldwater Fish that I have seen in Tanks there has been no Lights just the Ambient lights in the room... I have visited a Local Company that Specializes in CW and None of their tanks had lights on them...

hth,
James

Yep, most of the stuff you'll be able to keep is non-photosynthetic. The waters of the Sound and off the coast are too murky for things to survive that way. All the animals at the Aquarium are just lit for viewing.
