I just bought a poly filter to absorb my small traces of ammonia and nitrates. Does anybody have any prior experience on using these filter pads. How did they work out? I plan to take out all the filter pads out of my canister filter and just run it with carbon and poly fiter. Any feedback will be awesome, thanks

Most people from what I understand, only use them for freshwater tanks. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone using them for salt. Could be wrong...In any event, if you are using it because you are reading ammonia and the tank is newly setup (and you have live rock) just give the tank time to cycle and the ammonia will go away. You don't want to use something to remove the ammonia at this stage as ammonia needs to be present for the necessary beneficial bacteria to grow that will take care of it for you in the future. Just a thought...:)

No prob!:) I'm sure the others will chime in if they have had experience with using it, but I don't think I've ever heard for salt:)

Poly Filters are primarily used in saltwater quarantine tanks to remove drugs or chemicals like copper.

Poly filter come in a few different types. The ones for ammonia that Ive see work on the same principal a zeolite and may even be impregnated with zeolite. If it is zeolite it will not remove ammonia from saltwater.

Poly filters work great. I have used them many times. They will turn different colors to indicate what they are removing from the water. IMO they are the best out there.
