I recently aquired a new copperband butterfly (6days ago) and yesterday I noticed one eye is slightly cloudy and swollen. I have him in a 10 gal qt with the salinity at 1.018 and all other parameters are good. does this sound like popeye? if so how can I treat it? I've read posts about using epsom salts, how does this effect the hypo-salinity? thanks in advance for any help

This is only a guess. I have seen a lot of fish get eye damage from nets and when they are trying to hide in a tank from nets. Alot of times with good water quality and good food it seems to heal up. This is only my opinon. HTH Steve

Steve is right. Popeye is frequently caused by netting. The swelling genrally goes down in a few days without medication. If the eye is very cloudy or getting worse then my first choice of antibiotic for eye infections is Maracyn-Two. Double the daily dose and treat for 7+ days. For now, I would make a large water change using well aged and aerated saltwater. Is the fish eating and what?
I am not sure what adding magnesium salt (epsom) to water that already is salty will do to help popeye in saltwater fish.
