Hello Terry,
I wanted to ask you this in person this August, I just could not wait. I know of one fish and I am sure there are others that release toxins into the water when stressed. The fish that comes to mind is a porcupine puffer. I lost several large fish because of a porcupine puffer. Are there any other fish that do the same thing and how can we prevent this from happening? How does a person identify when a fish is poisoned?
Thanks in Advance,
Ed

Actually, a Porc. Puffer does not release toxins upon dying. They are poisonous to eat, yes...but do not release toxins, like a Boxfish.

This is usually not a problem but boxfish can release toxins into the water. It does not happen often. The symptoms are unusual swimming patterns and rapid breathing.
