Ok I would appreciate it if no one who make jokes..... LOL
The rookie in me may have ruined it all. I have always dosed calcium with liquid calcium. A reefer told me the benefits of kalkwasser. I got some and make a dripper. On the directions it says 1 teaspoon per gallon so I mixed up one gallon fresh water with 24 teaspoons kalkwasser. I only did 24 on my 50 gallon tank thinking I would start out small, instead of 50 teaspoons. I dripped it over night last night and my tank water is white today. I have no salt here (fresh out) so I cannot do a water change. I start a 7am and won't be home till 4pm tonight. The thing that really brings a tear to my eye is its already killed my 6 line and my clowns are laying in the sand gasping for air.
I've made alot of mistakes, purchased many filters, lighting, and skimmer set ups because I thought what I was buying was good enough and found out it wasn't. Keep in mind, I hadn't found this site till later into the hobby and I knew NO reef keepers where I could get advise. I guess I was easily taken advantage of because, and I'm 100% honest here. I've spent over $5k since I started this hobby a year ago. This is it. If everything is dead when I get home I cannot justify rebuilding. I will be posting my system in the sell section later today if everything is dead. I am serious, typing this up brings a tear to my eye.

Wow, Brett. I can only tell you that when you friend told you 1tsp per gallon they were refering to the fresh water mix with the kalk and not how many gallons are in your tank. Your ph in your tank is probably up over 9 and the calcium storm in your tank probably will kill everything in there except the aptasia. I don't know whether or not you can save everything or not, but emergency waterchanges are what you need to do. Do you have any friends that can hold anything that is still alive? Can you not take the day off of work? I hope that some of your stuff does pull thru for you.

Holly cr&*, that is terrible to hear Brett. I'm with Tom, take the day off work and go to a LFS and see if they've got any pre-made salt water for sale (most do), and start by changing out at least 50% of your water. You could also see if the store would hold some/any of your fish & corals for you while you get everything back in order; or if you can find someone local who'd be willing to hold everything for you.

I hate to say it, but if you let this sit all day long you're almost guaranteed that there's going to be nothing left alive when you get home. Maybe someone on this site that lives local to you can help...anyone?

Brett, that is heartbreaking. I read that, man I feel for you. Call in sick to work man. You live in Washington, borrow a bag of salt from somebody or the local fish store. Hell steal it if you have to. Dont give up. I am rooting for you. Maybe someone could chime in on this. But if I were in your situation I would add vinager to my tank. I know its bad to do but its a shot to lower the ph. If you were in KY I could definitly loan you a one of my quar tanks up and running. I know there is somebody in Wash that can help you. Get on the horn. Dont give up. Steve

Maybe drip the vinager water over several hours while your preping water for change and afterwards till ph gets down.

Brett, I will try call your work. I work today, but will see if i can take a shorter day. I have salt if you do not have any.

Again, I agree that water changes are key here. Also, toss in some carbon in a mesh bag of some sort at least until this situation is cleared.

If you mix up water and place the clowns in the new water, they will be ok. I lost your phone number, but will call your work.

Brett! Hang in there!! I agree - make some phone calls to see if anyone can hold the remaining live stock for you. I also agree on getting some pre-made salt water and do a water change. Don't give up! The mistake you made is certainly understandable. The sentence can be interpreted either way. We're here to help you through the process.

I live about 15 minutes down the road and can come over and help you put it all back together, I have a bucket of salt and I am sure a few corals hiding somewhere in my tank to get you baack on your feet again.

Ditto on cool people supporting each other....Thats what makes this place Priceless..Brett, I did the same thing with Kalk overdose. My Kalk doser came apart.
I lost fish. I learned my softies bounce back faster than LPS and SPS. I wish you luck, You have support of some really educated people around you wanting to help. Things like this build a better relationship with friends. So do not feel like you can not do anything right....This happens a lot. I just do not think it is communicated as often. Ditto with me to help you out. I had a similar situation in my tank. Pulled out the fish and all recovered. I hope you get off work. You may lose most Inverts, but my corals and anenomes survived. Best of luck. I have some softies to replace your losses. I don't have much but can offer what I do have to get you back on track. Hang in there.
