With winter comming there is going to alot of power outages. Most of the time I find my power goes out for only an hour or so at a time and usually while at work. Since I cant run home and fire up a generator and babysit the tank here is what I have come up with. It will run a mag24 for only 4 hours so if your pump was alot smaller it would run longer. Its automated so all you have to do is check your batteries a few time per year.
I'll try to get some pics of mine. It fits nicely in and on a dual battery box.

Hey Donw, I have a 700 watt inverter. and IME it eats up the power too fast even without too much load. And because of the recent 14 hour blackout that hit me few weeks back, I can tell you that mine is not that efficient.

Well here is the load.

1x200 watt heater
1xmaxijet powerhead

it only ran for 2 hours and the inverter starts beeping... it does this when it tries to protect the battery from draining, so you can still start your car. And since i have this battery for inverter use only, i dont want that feature. But there is no way to turn it off.

Anyway, Ive then decided to run a cheap computer UPS. Bought one for under 30 bucks. And since this ones runs also with 12 volts battery (but less amperage). I hooked it up with my 12 volt battery (car type), and whoa....

More than 6 hours of use was achieved on the same load.
Drawback, is the constant beep......beep......beep thing of this UPS. Still better that inverters.

Another plus, is you dont even have to switch it to battery mode. It does this automatic.

Hope this helps...
