Make sure if you are using a transfer switch that you have a disconnect from the main grid, if not you can back feed into it and electrocute a linesmen that is not expecting power in a line when there is because you are back feeding it
OH, WOW,...is that why all the street lights came on when I started my generator last year? lol, JK.
I suppose thats the differnce between a manual and outomatic transfer switch. I have heard of people backfeeding thier generator through the 220 outlet on their dyrer or oven wich I supppose would actualy work in a pinch, but as you say you have to flip the main breaker and disconnect from the grid before and affter using the generator.
