Bryan,
We have found that this is really a mixed bag of opinions out there. We started with all two K3's at the top corner like Jayson mentions both aimed at the center of the glass and we had a K2 on the back wall behind the rock blowing straight through them also at the front glass. This gave lots of chaos with all the flows colliding. It was hard to get things to settle in the new tank though. They kept getting blown about. Then we switched to just the two K3's still int he top corners but one aiming down the back of tank behind all the rocks and one the same but do the front of the tank. We turned off the K2 in the back all togehter. This created a gyre effect with all the water moving in a circle. This was ok. Now we have the one still pointed behind the rocks and the other pointed toward the front but up toward the surface. This is really agitating the surface for good gas exchange but I have noticed the skimmer has significantly slowed down in collection of gunk which tells me that the gunk is staying in the water column. I used to empty the skimmer cup every 1-2 days, Now it's only got 1/2" of collection in it for three days running. I'm not sure if I will change it back yet. All this being said it's really personal preference and trial and error. You are always welcome to come by and see what we have done if you think it might help.
