Ilham some of the things I want to ask you are, What type of foods do you feed, Your water quality or water quality that Clowns desire to spawn? I also noticed what looks like a tile placed upward. I want to ask you about Environment that is desired also.
Thanks in Advance,
Ed
Hi Ed. They are currently adults in a 10 gallon normal glass tank with a couple of T5 13 watters in a hood (thanks Jeff/Jen - flugelnuss).
THe clowns were from a fellow who decided to move out of the area and could not take any of this things with him. I had to hop on the opportunity to get some nice clowns who were bonded non-spawning adults.
IME/IMO, foods need to really be varied. Some foods I feed, not in particular order, are store bought frozen prawns (51-60 count, I find that this size works better than the bigger ones, especially if you don't have a lot of fish to feed), bay scallops (again I prefer the smaller ones, since they are cheaper, and because of the same reason above), Formula 1 frozen (only about 2-3 times per week), just recently using squid (so I can't say as to whether this has bad/good long term effects). Clownfishes need algae in their system as well, not just meaty meals. To balance this, I use OSI Spirulina flake food, in addition to the Formula 1 above, which does have algae). Just do not overfeed and cause nutrient problems
I don't consider their tank a reef tank at the moment. The two reef tanks I do keep (27 cube and 20 tall, with spawning GSM's and Clarkiis) are kept at SG 1.025. The others are kept slightly lower at 1.023-1.024. I hardly test nitrates, as there seems to be none each time I test, so I stopped doing them. This will probably get me later....but lets hope not
The tile is just there to encourage them to lay eggs on. Something that I can remove easily when they do spawn and I decide to raise them later. It is just more for convenience, and of course, not very aesthetically pleasing. I don't like how the tank looks (bare as it is).
IME/IMO, clownfishes really do not need anemones, although with one, or a surrogate, they tend to be calmer and probably have a higher chance of spawning. Both reef tanks have either anemone or surrogate for the clowns.
Again, all my opinions, so please do not take this as something to follow. Everyone will have their own way of feeding, etc etc
Best,
Ilham
