Just a quick thread on a easy way to stteralize netts and equiptment.Keeping a bucket of water with as mush salt as you can desolve in it[I use evaaporated sea water, sold at grocery stores]to make a brine in a convienent locationwill go a long way twards keeping any bad things from getting transported from tank to tank or fish to fish.1 hour is usually ample time to do the trick.

Oh great, all I need is another bucket of salt water:D LOL sounds like a good idea, don't know how practical it is but worth looking into because I always have to clean everything prior to going into the tank, I guess this is where a fish room comes in handy!:p

Actually the very best means of sterilization is a week water/bleach (10 to 1) solution. It will kill bacteria, viruses and parasites but remember it is a chlorine product and must be allowed to air dry. Also be aware bleach breaks down quickly once added to water and exposed to air.

It's generally not a good idea to share nets between tanks so that in itself will eliminate most issues. From a retailers stand point I can see the need but for the home hobbyist, it's not really necessary. Keeping the net clean and dry in most cases is the main concern.

?????? i wash my filter socks in a light bleach mix..i always run an extra rinse cycle and then rinse them for a minute under RO/DI water.sometimes they are still wet from the washer when i use them..is this bad to not let them dry??

If you can smell any at all its still there. I dont use anything. Just run on the hot cycle.

As far as a storage and or cleaning solution. Iodine/lugols is the quick and safe.

Allowing it to air dry fully will rid the product of the chlorine since it's natural state is a gas. Once added to water it dilutes and breaks down quickly so it's not as bad as you might think. If you want to be safe, once rinsed very well in clean fresh water, replace with some fresh water with a dechlorinator and then air dry.
