I have six months to have my clowns and so buy them as a couple .. were fine until a few days I began to see that you are not together as the big hits to small and do not let them closer to the anemone or the , Which will be what happens?

Hello Jen, I dont know if you have been welcome, but here it goes... Welcome to RF. I hope I can help you with your questions. If I cant then I will help you bug the experts here to answer your questions.

When you bought them? are they like babies? and now they are grown ups? Pay attention to what happen next, If you think that the small ones cannot defend himself the try to remove it. But in my experience specially if they are juveniles and the same size. They dont know yet whose going to be male or female. Now that we know in your case the bully is the female, and the smaller one is the male, then they will still need adjustments since they are also new to this relationship deal. The other fish says, Im the boss, and the other says, no I want to be the boss. Later down the road, they will realize who will become the boss and they will be at peace.

I forgot to ask... are they the same species? the same kind of clown?

Hi Jen
I agree with Kat. Often one clown, usually the larger, will assert itself, claim some territory and get bossy. Watch the terrorized one carefully and if you think it is getting way too picked on ( fin nipped or cowering in a cave or corner, not getting any food) I would recommend isolating them from each other. I have had good luck using a clear breeder basket for one ( I usually "jail" the bossier one for a good hard time out) and after a few days they usually seem to get along better. I have juveniles from different hatch dates and have had great results using this method to combine two smaller groups together. ~ not that there is never henpecking going on! :)

Hi Jen and welcome to RF.

As mentioned previously, most likely one of the juvenile clowns has decided to become the alpha clown and is exerting her dominance.

Does the smaller clown start doing any sort of twitching when the other starts to bully?

Also what type of clownfish are these?

Cheers,
Alex
