Protein Skimmer in a Sump

I have a sump in three compatments:
1. water flows into from the tank with chatoe
2. middle with the heater and live rock with little sand
3. return pump back up to tank

I have a protein skimmer I want to add that will be externail but where should I do the skimming from and set that pump in the chamber?

You want to skim the rawest water so draw the water from the area that the tank water comes into the sump.

Yup, the 'in from the tank' chamber. That will help control the bubbles.

So draw in chamber one out to the skimmer outside the tank.

Then return to which chamber?

That would be correct, I would probably return it to the same compartment you are drawing from. You could return it to the second chamber, but you would then run the risk of bubbles not dissipating and going back into the display. My opinion anyways

So due to size and the room I have under the tank in the stand.

I have to have the skimmer all the way to the left so my intake and return. That means the 3/4" pips can almost have a total of 4 feet with a couple of 90 elbows.

I am going to use a rip 2500 pump.

I always have my skimmer set up to have the first shot of incoming water into the sump.

Thanks for all your feedback.
I manage to fit it in the small area off chamber one where the water from the tank feeds into. I put it on a 3" lift stand and that was perfect for the water out to be above the water line. It is going to town and doing its job so far.
Got to love working with equipment and the tight areas to get creative in.
