Hi all,

On occasions my clams start to pulsate either individually or together. Is this feeding behaviour? It often coincides when I clean my tank's inner glass. I am assuming they are filtering free swimming algae or diatoms!

Thanks

what they are doing is purging debris from their gills. Mostly likely the algae scraped from the glass is to big for them to digest so they are blowing it back out

Mine do this when I dose phyto and oyster feast, but my clams are 4".... would this still be the same?

Is there any chance you can video of this please?

I will do that for you.

I used to dose oyster feast and my clams behaved in the same way as I described above. They exhibited pulsation movements as if they inhaled the oyster eggs.

I have 2 derasas and 1 squamossa and I can't say that I have ever seen them pulsate. They do slam shut when ever I accidentally drop food on them or if a fish gets too close.
