Luck was definitely on my side today. I just got back last night from Ohio after being out there for two and a half weeks. Today I was sitting here at my computer and saw a flash behind my tank and a odd sound. I go over there and it reeked of burnt components so I turned the power strip off. I think one of my heaters just bit the dust. Anyone know if it could leak anything into the water when it blew?

Edit: Just pulled it out, the entire bottom half of the Accu-therm heater I won at the Barrier Reef Sale is blown completely off!

this happened to me once. my entire tank was milky and I lost everything. run some carbon maybe a water change

Well luckily I'm still in the middle of the cycle, so no stock in the tank to lose, and it was down in my sump so hopefully I killed power to the return pump before too much of anything inside got moved out. I was just surprised, it is busted right in the middle, and the heater part inside the glass fell out of the glass while I was pulling it out. This heater was only in there three weeks.

WOW! glad it wasn't one of the heaters that you got with the tank from me, I would have felt terrible. Hope you get things back to normal. I have extra heaters if you need to borrow one.

Well, I think the message I sent through Cobalt's website worked, it kept saying it was blank so they may have gotten three copies of my message lol.

Well crap... My in-laws were nice enough to tank-sit a 10g tank with my corals in it at their place while I was gone. I went over today to drop my daughter off for the weekend and to prep it all for moving back home and discovered the light had been turned off for 3 weeks.
:jaw: The zoas and Palys may survive, the polyps are still there just closed up. I lost the hammer and my hollywood stunner chalice, both are just bare skeletons :rip:. My Duncan looks like it might recover, same with the napthia.

Yeah, the feeling I had when I asked if they had seen the light on while I was gone and my father in law thought about it for a moment and said no....Long vacations can sometimes suck lol

Well my Duncan is opening up, it is still bleached white pretty bad, so I'm still listing him as touch and go. My purple death palys are opening, but same as the duncan they are white as well.

Well I wasn't expecting any problems with my in-laws watching them, it was only a 10g tank. It is totally my fault though, I rushed through everything at the last moment to not miss my flight that day.

Getting beat down twice in a short time sucks. They aren't what you lost, but I have some small frags of the sps in the pics below to help your mojo if you want them. (pay it foward, meet in renton, or possibly the swap.. having decided if I'm going )

Just hang in there..,..Plate corals will die and come back 1000 fold. wonder if others have similar behavior that we just haven't identified yet?

Sorry for the long wait on me keeping up on this thread, lost the notification in my email box and just found. I finally had to email Cobalt directly, their message us feature on their site didn't work. I got a reply the very next morning with an immediate offer to replace the heater. Very satisfied with their customer service!

I do appreciate the offer and might take you up on that at a later date. :first: With only the 10g active at the moment I don't think the lighting is sufficient for SPS.

As for the tank itself, nothing new is going on with the 90g. I'm waiting for Reef Breeders to get their 48" LED set up back in stock so I can get my lighting swapped out. I just took my sump offline so I can redo the baffles in it again, going for a few more inches of height to each to help reduce the noise and add a few more inches of space to the refugium section.

Consider it a standing offer (as long as I don't nuke my tank) If give me a yell a week or two before you are ready, that will give the frags a chance to heal up a bit if I have to get fresh ones.

I greatly appreciate it!
