For anyone with an LPS softy tank that is looking for a great coral check these out. They aren't cheap but they are gorgeous. I picked one up yesterday and it looks great under my Radiums. Barrier has some in their Elos as well as a few for sale in another tank.

they have a a bunch in there Elos tank in the front of the sdtore..
they are back around by were the Teller would sit..
VERY dark purple.:)

uhh I bought one during the barrier reef anniversary sale a while ago and it wasn't doing so hot in direct light then I stuck it under a rock ledge blocking it from direct light. MY GAWD it turned a very very deep purple and split in to about 6 polyps or so over night.

I love these

I have a very nice and quite large red rohdactis and it too does not like direct light and prefers low light. I might just have to swing by BR and see if they have any more of these purple ones. *lol*

Do you have any pics of yours? Do they look just like the results if I do a google image search?

I've never really been able to find photos online that do them justice. At least in their fully grown form. The latin on them is either Rhodactis indosinensis or Rhodactis inchoata, aka "Purple Tonga" mushroom. The ones in our Elos at the shop are HUGE. Easily the size of my hand. I have one which Bricky was nice enough to part with from his colony when it split off... It started off maybe the size of a half dollar, with the mouth towards the edge.. Its now easily double that and nicely formed with the mouth in the center. Can't wait til it gets the size of the ones in the Elos...

I know we still had 3-4 of them for sale at the shop a couple days ago... They look like this: (not my photo, random google searched)

Sweet! well hopefully one will still be there on Saturday when I show up at 10AM. I live up north so I can only come down on the weekends. (fingers crossed)

Just an FYI...the ones in the Elos tank are not fo sale. They should be considered good examples of potential tough. We currently have two left for sale.

Thanks,
Cy

The Elos Purple Rhodactis came from my tank. I've been sharing them with Barrier as they fall off here and there. They do get some from another farmer too, but I don't think they're as purple as mine.

They prefer shaded light and tolerate medium flow, but prefer lower flow.

Hey all,
I just wanted to backup and add to what Cy mentioned. The aquacultured rhodactis that are available come in darker and aren't as "glowy" as the specimens in our Elos tank due to the fact they were grown under more intense lighting at our suppliers. They will however get just as beautiful as "Luisse's photo" under more subdued bluer halide or T-5 exposure. I have many specimens from this supplier out in service accounts and have found they get as fluorescent as the Elos' if they are kept near the bottom of the tank especially if halide is used.
