I've read plenty of people using very small barbless bated hook/line to catch unwanted fish. All stating it was harmless/non fatal to the fish.

Yeah, I read about that tip a few years ago.
I needed to remove a hippo tang that developed a taste for zoanthids.
Found a fly shop that had the tiny barbless hooks and gave it a try.
I caught every fish in the tank except the hippo tang. Even caught the female marroon clown twice. lol

Ive used the barbless method to catch a couple large angels myself...it works...
