pyrimid snail's or clam eating snails looking for threads based on this subject. elmo pointed me to a thread on rc I believe. Need to know more information about it. If no threads here explain away. I only saw small snails in my tank. about 3 months ago when I added smal astria snail's.. First thought was they were babies. but elmo scared me and now seeking serious advice.
anything will help!

Thanks
Larry

The pyramellids are prey specific. If yours are preying on your astrea snails, they are highly unlikely to jump over to your clams. You should be able to starve them out once the astreas are gone. You could also go the route of manual removal, but that could prove to be a real PIA.

There are several threads on RC in the Invert forum on these guys. I would post links, but my free membership search is not working during this high traffic time. Try searching there for "pyram" or "pyramellid" and good luck!

Larry - where are you seeing them? Are they attached to the astreas or other snails? Do you have clams in the tank?

Well I added some astrias and saw some on one of the snails. Have not seen them since and I am having alittle problem with 2 of my clams. My gigas looks like it is bouncing back and my crocea is not looking good. when elmo pointed me to pyramellids. It started me thinking. I have looked all around all of my clams and do not see any on the shells. Started checking the snails for them as well. Just remembering that I put them in there thinking they were babies. but have not seen any since. So I'm not sure if I should worry or not upset about my clams. It might have something to do with my lighting switched to 14 hamiltons not to long ago.

Did you acclimate your livestock to the new lighting?

You can check the clams late at night or before the lights come on. Look under the mantle area where the top of the shell is, and also around the byssal. Can you post pics of the clams?
