i was wondering this the other day, it would be a lot easier for hobbists if lfs's QT'd and treated for a lot of the basics like flatworms red bugs ich etc, does it just cost way to much to do that? not enough turnover perhaps?

I use to manage an LFS and we qt'd all of our fish for at least one week and if we had any questions about the fish we had other qt tanks and they would stay in the back for as long as it took. I know longer is better; However, it is like the old saying goes time is money. Also, knowing your wholesalers really helps too.

I know that alot of LFS's will "QT" there fish and not sell them for a week or so, but usually they are still with the other fish so it really doesnt do anything. But oh well, that is why we have QT's to!:)

Its pretty expensive to QT everything. Imagine the costs involved with a sperate system, labor to inspect and de-crab before treatment, medicate, and then move the pieces after. We ARE QT'ing or dipping all SPS so our customers will have no worries about AEFW, Red Bugs, or Nudi's. Zoanthids will also be dipped and cleaned if not QT'd for nudi's. Unfortunately, our fish will only hit their seperate QT tank if they need it. In a couple years after we expand there will be a much larger fish QT system.
