I have two Maxi w/ the AF mods on my 90 gal and it has always been a problem dialing in the flow. Just way too much flow. Either the softies are getting whipped or the sand is blown all over.
Question about 1st tank......

I drill tanks if you can not find some one closer. I can also build the overflow box. Most tanks are tempered bottom. You can usually find the list on the manufactures web site. The all glass 40 gallon breeder is not tempered on the bottom, no center brace, very nice tank for corals, but would cost you about $100.00 plus mods. I would also suggest a bigger drain than required. Over longer periods of time you can have worms, snails, sand and other items start to stick to the inside of the pipe and star to restrict flow.
