Ok so I havent looked into this yet much, but was curious for a synopsis of what an R/O does basically, and what advantage it has?
yes I realize I can google this, but sometimes I find someones explaination helps me understand better, than a reference site.

RO or RO/DI advantages can be summed up like this: they help remove as much "unknown" stuff from your water, making it pure (or at least purer than before).

Depending on where you're getting your water (i.e. city water supply, well water, etc) there can be a number of things in the water besides H2O. These can include minerals, flouride, chlorine, and other chemicals used to make the water safe for human consumption. While it may be good for us, many of these additives are not good for our reef tanks. So, in a nut shell, RO or RO/DI removes most all of these impurities, leaving you with much purer water to use for your reef tank. By eliminating the "unknowns" it gives you a greater chance at success and also a less chance of having problems related to water quality, ranging from algae growth to livestock dying.

I always look at it this way: water is the single greatest ingredient we use in our reef tanks, so why not make sure it's the best quality possible? An investment in a good quality RO/DI unit will pay for itself over & over again, each and every time you add water to your tank, which is often ;)

HTH & good luck!

Rob

Thanks :) I guess I understood the theory but wasnt certain the what was the benefit......so essentiually this is a much better method than adding the "start right" chemicals???
when you say a a "quality RO/DI system, what are factors I want to consider?

ahhhhh Thanks, this was very helpful. also helpful that I wont want to buy some B store brand. and that there are many considerations to ponder.
