Okay, so I think my maxima is not receiving the light that it really needs, its about 18 inches below the surface of a 175 watt hallide, 20k bulb. The thing is, ive seen clams that recieve not enough light look good and then in a matter of 3 days be gone. I'm afraid my clam might do this!. BUT the thing is i can see new shell growth and alot of it. Its mantle is open, its very reactive and the key imo is it's new shell growth. So the question i guess is, can a dying clam or one that isnt getting enough light still produce new shell? im trying to move the clam up, but my rockwork is kinda taken up by other corals=P

If your clam is growing, has good mantle extension, reacts well, and is under a halide light in good water, seems like there isn't much to worry about. Yes, brighter light or closer to it would be nice, but yours sounds like it is fine.
