Third time is a charm. I lost 1/2 of two pairs. Put the remainers together and got lucky. The huge pair spawn regularly and Carol (NanaC) showed me how to separate the brood from the Male.

They are held in a little 3"x3"x5" home made pen at the top of the parent's tank where easy to feed once an hour or more often. They reside within a home made spiny urchin which is a bio-ball and a bunch of 3" black zip-ties.

Very COOL Mike, but next time take your pic before your 7-shot Espresso... lol

Cheers, Todd

Very cool Mike! Can't tell what the heck I'm looking at in that picture though, but I know your intentions were good:p.

Good luck with the little fellows! :)

Et Tu Peppie?
Sheesh, what a tough crowd! You guys do know I hope, that they are darting in and out of that pile of plastic targeting baby brine...

Anyway:

Mike:

I pulled 2 babies just three days ago myself from my Male Bengai. Why just 2? They have had as many as 35 in a batch. I see 2 in your picture, how many did you retrieve. You said that your fish were older. Mine have been spawning for 2-3 years now and it seems like the batches of 25 to 35 babies have been replace by no more than 10 or so.

First batch I have collected. They were premature at 21 days? Seven collected but mostly yolk not swimming and 3 survived Hope to get more next time. A friend has been collecting 20 something every month or so. Might have to do with feeding. I am feeding the heck out of them daily, as much as they can gulp. Will keep you updated. How is everything going overall for you yours?

Mike:

My two were premature as well. I bought an egg tumbler for $20 from a guy on line that is designed for fresh water fish rearing. I used it as an incubator for my "premies". It was 4 days before they could swim and eat. I have another young pair F1's that spawn irregularly and don't seem to want to go the distance. He usually carries for about 10 to 15 days is all. I tried stealing the eggs one time at 5 days or so in order to raise them in the egg tumbler. That didn't work and I just lost the entire 25 egg clutch to fungus? Ya never run out of new things to do in this hobbie, that's why I like it so much.

Very cool. I love the trend to breed fish at home. That many fewer that need to be taken for the sea :D

Just captured another batch of baby Bangai Cardinalfish. Larger batch, and bigger stronger babies. Exactly 4 weeks from when male quit eating (holding babies in mouth)

Have three ages of babies now. Will post pics later when get a chance.

Very nice Mike. You're getting pretty good at this. We will need to get a pair from you when they are good and ready. Congrats buddy.

Awesome!!
Good job Mike!
I wish I had time to try to raise Banggai's or Clownfish fry....

let me know when you have some for sale. im looking for some for my seahorse tank. and ill see if i have money for that batch or not.

The stray was just a little smaller than it's peers. After caught up and into the feeding pen with it's siblings, only took a couple hours for it to learn to feed on their growth food :>)

Have 21 of two groups in pen and one large one from first failed batch outside = 22 babies

They don't have to have a needle urchin, but the one in the pen is a bio-ball with little black zip ties speared through
