recirculating skimmer question

There's tons of cheap pumps out there ... do you have a specific design in mind? What dimensions are you considering?

Octopus Needle Wheel Pumps and GenX Needle Wheel Pumps are a decent choice if you're thinking inexpensive.

www.aquacave.com and www.customaquatic.com carries them.

Let us know your thoughts and I'm sure more suggestions will come.

im not sure but i definitly want the best possible pump for my budjet
dementions dont matter this is going to be an exturnal skimmer
but it is for my 65g reef what size pump and brand do you think i should get

I don't know what skimmer plans you are interested in, but just to throw some ideas at ya, here's a set of plans to make a 6" diameter skimmer.

I would suggest making this a recirculating skimmer like shown on this page.

Basically merge both plans into one to create a 6" recirculating protein skimmer.

I would also suggest weighing your options ... start looking at the Octopus protein skimmers and see if you really want to make one or just buy one. From my understanding, the Octopus skimmers are said to be the best bang for the $$$.

Just do some figuring, compare prices, and see if you really want to make one or buy one.

When it comes to the 6" skimmer plans ... the ONLY thing I would change is to use a 3" neck instead of a 2" neck (which is used in the plans). I truly believe that a 3" neck would be the way to go. I just cheaped out and went the EASY rout with the 2" neck.

I will soon be modifying my 6" skimmer to a recirculating skimmer. I'm tempted to use either the Octopus pump or the Quiet One pump. I'm not sure yet. I would also do some reading on 'Reef Central' as MANY have been posting DIY Skimmer thread in the DIY forum there lately.

Oh ... I forgot to mention, since this will be an external skimmer ... if you happen to own (or can get your hands on) some thread taps, you may consider not using Uniseals. Uniseals are easy, inexpensive, and quick; but I usually trust threads more than I trust Uniseals.

i was thinking about a 6'' by 25'' skimmer
and i just bought a octopus pump
but i was thinking way cheaper then you are like some empty soda bottles and stuff like that because i am 16 and i dont have a job so saving money any way possible is the best
but would hot glue work for seals

o and do you know where i can get some really cheap maxi jets for feed pumps
