Upon this I will agree... better that someone TELL you they have it than to find out the hard way.
The STD analogy seems pretty fluid here as well.
Red bug vs. AEFW is like comparing herpes and HIV.... there is a responsibility on the part of the giver to inform the receiver. The difference in this comparison is that neither STD can be wiped out, and one of them may kill you. And we all know what we think of someone who knowingly passes either on to someone else :}
My supposition is that similar contempt be held for anyone who
knowingly passes on Red Bug or AEFW, with or without treating.
To specifically address the $100 an inch issue, it seems to me when someone (dang or whomever) is charging a tremendous premium for a product, that product
better be the absolute best. Accordingly, the husbandry of that product should be the absolute best. "You get what you pay for" references more than just what a coral looks like or its rarity when you are propagating as a hobbyist. If you are a retailer or wholesaler, the equation may be argued to be somewhat different, but we all know who we are inclined to support BECAUSE we know their integrity and husbandry to be excellent.
We are
each responsible for what we put into our tank, and wisdom dictates everything live that goes in be quarantined, dipped or whatever is most appropriate. Wisdom is readily available via forums like this, but most is directly learned via success and mistake. It should be the responsibility of the more “senior†reefkeepers to share their “wisdom†(from both success & mistake) with others, and if they choose to share corals (for ridiculous amounts of money or for free) to do what they can to avoid perpetuating red bug, AEFW, MEN, or what have you.
For me, this is just a hobby. For me, this is not about ego. For me, this is not about having something no-one else has, but about sharing so that others may too.
Oh yes, I am not sorry if I have offended anyone! If I have, get over it!
I have no hidden agenda, or inclination to kiss anyones a$$.
My friends are my friends, and they know who they are.
There are many "unmet friends" out there who I am looking forward to meeting.
To all of you, good luck and have fun
