Red Fuzz Algae

For the past oh..about 5mths. I have had this fuzz red algae on my live rock. It use to have little hairs coming off it. But when I re did my tank..I pluclked them off.

Its like a little fuzzy carpet in areas..I have scarlet crabs, snails..and they have taken some down..but I cant get rid of it.

I have used a phosphate pad...and one that says it gets rid of the red algae.
Its not slim..more like little tuffs of fuzz.

I even have treated it 2wice with stuff to kill cyno..slim algae..and the stuff still stays there.

Any suggestions?

I have it in my tank. I have found that it will only grow in low flow areas, so you could try adjusting your flow to get to those areas. I have also found that turbo snails love the stuff.

I had it bad when I tried to have red Gracillaria macroalgae in my show tank. It came in and quickly grew all over the Gracillaria, forcing me to pull everything out. Too late, it was now in my refugium and took over. However, down there it doesn't really matter what anything looks like, and grows so fast it really pulls the nutrients out of the water. I just keep adding Chaetomorpha on top and shade it out a little, that is all that keeps it in check. It is also easy to pull out. I found nothing that worked in the show tank above it except removing the Gracillaria substrate it grew on.

Hmm. Its in areas that gets high flow as well. I got a few more turbos...any other thoughts on how to get rid of it?

How bad is it (all over, small patches, large area, etc.)? I have a similar algae in a very small patch, but it is right in the heavy flow of an output of my closed loop. I have trouble even pulling it off manually - it stays pretty short. I haven't found anything to help yet. I recently moved the output to see if removing the flow from that spot will help. I've learned with my closed loop, algaes that grow in the path of high flow are difficult to manually remove....they sure can hold on. Hmmm....if the patches are small enough you can try to cover the area with something like a small half clam shell, etc. to deprive it of light.

Yeah well its all on the rocks..just on the top where the light mainly hits. Yes..its hard to get off manually.lol GRR.
I have a lot of water flow. I have 2 powerheads in the 36gal. Maxijet 900 and Penguin 600..think I have too much? Thinks that may aid in the life of this bothersome algae? I will test it out with covering some with a large flat shell..and if it works..lol I will just move the shell in areas..where it cuts down! lol

if you have a big enough tank....you can use a yellow tang... that fixed my problem.

I have a yellow tang in there actually..and a sailfin blenny. They eat some..but not enough. Ahh well..I will keep on trying.
