Red sea prizm skimmer - loud?

So I threw one of these crappy skimmers on my 10 gal QT system to cycle some sand - and man, its loud. I put a regulator on the air intake but it still makes a ton of noise, puts my remora to shame.

Has anyone else noticed this? Any ideas of quieting it down or is it just because the pump is external so the water isn't dampening the impeller and air intake noise?

I think it is normal, very noisy skimmer.

you can try to use Red Sea wooden airstone to put it in the air intake, it helps a bit.

forget it....it will be loud no matter what you do, even if you put a muffler on the air imput.
pathetic little skimmer...and too small to really mod efficently.
