That's when people started joining. Not as if there's an agenda or anything, but there are definitely still people there talking.

Some of you may have had trouble connecting to IRC of late. AfterX is currently under the clutches of a DOS attack. It's been sustained for a few days now. So The've added a temporary server which isn't affected by the attack.

Use /server 207.6.123.209 6659 to connect
or /server 207.6.123.209:6659 depending on your IRC client.

Any way of putting in a chat button that will put us in the chat room. Most other sites have direct link.

Min you dont know how far out of my grasp that is , lol I am not the tech guy but I will ask Chuck when he gets back into town. Most of the chats you are talking about are Java and we dont want to go down that road. Is thier any reason you can get directly onto MIRC??? maybe we could help you get up.

For security reasons, I would prefer that we do not use Jpilot or another java portal client. That is a very anonymous way to access the chat room and it makes it much harder, if not impossible to control.

If you are having trouble with any of the programs I listed earlier posts concerning chat, please let me know. They are all free, so that shouldn't be a concern. Also, the chatroom is only open to persons with registered IRC user names (free too) and I'm not sure how Java-chat handles that sort of thing. If it comes done to it, I can adapt to Java, but it is a huge headache if any problems ever arise.

Anyway... I’m working on a few other functions for the room, beyond the searchable !Help function. I will be adding a !Pic function for coral and perhaps fish ID. A !Def function, for quick definitions of common terms and perhaps a few other things if time permits. This will take some time so bare with me, but hopefully I can put together a safe, informative and highly functional environment for all our members.

Erik, if you're bogged down with questions over and over, we should just make a sticky with frequently asked questions.

Or if you guys are having a hard time logging on, I can try help also. PM is fine.

That is an excellent idea Ilam. I think a chat stickey is needed. Perhaps, I can start to write something up later this week.

Write up a FAQ for chat, and we will figure something out. We will stick it at first, then maybe have a link on the home page to it on the little menu :) Maybe part of our FAQ if it becomes popular enough ? Let me know, I can't do anything in the next week or so, but we can get to it eventually :)
 
Yeah I'm swamped too this week Chuck, but I'll try to put in a hour or so each evening. Remember chat is tomorrow night! Perhaps we can link the weekly discussion thread in someway to the chat as well.

Every time I get on Mirc I get lost. So any help would be appreciated. As for help me getting it up ,no thanks I leave that for the wife.:badgrin: :badgrin:

Ok Min thats a start. From the site homepage download the mirc program and then install it on your computor. Once you have done that come back for more and we can go again.

Ok min you should be able to double click the icon and the program will start up. If you want IM me in a chat of your choice and I can walk your through it.
