Reef Octopus BH-1000 issue!

I've been running this for a year. I've yet to find the cups sweet spot. In order to keep the nog from accumulating in the neck, I have to run it very wet. Otherwise the neck gets very nasty, very little if any nog makes it to the cup. If I lower the cup to much then it's just pushing pee water. To high and it stays in the neck, with the heavier stuff falling to the bottom of the skimmer, where it sits until I take the whole thing apart and clean it out.
This is frustrating the heck out of me. Am I missing something here?

I bought one for my 50 build a few years ago, but before I even used it I read some people had those issues, so I sold it nib and bought a SWC Mini Hot skimmer.

I'm wondering if the neck can be shortened. This would help a lot!

I use a avast swabbie and it keeps it clean for more consistent results

Don't think it would work as my cup is square. Plus $160 is a bit much
