Should I use charcoal in a reef tank and if so what is a good brand or is there something better to use than charcoal? What other filtration should I use with a reef tank?

SI SI SI thank you.

there are various times to run charcoal and veroious reason for it. charcoal is not needed all of the time imo. if you go to bulk reef supply and look for video on their rox charcaol it can be very helpfull to start.

I've never heard of using charcoal, but I have used carbon:p. I ran mine 24/7 using Black Diamond and was happy with it. If you use any medication in the tank, you will have to remove it during that time as it will absorb it out of the water.:)

Don't feel bad. charcoal to me is pretty much synonymous with carbon. Matter of fact its probably the aquarium industry that had to call it "carbon" to make it seem more special than charcoal. the fact that its "activated" charcoal is what matters.

BBQ charcaol is not activated....at least until you light the match! lol
