refractometer

Wow 28 dollars I really need a refractometer cause I have 3 hydro meters and they all read different.

I once bought 3 identical hydrometers on clearance for a buck a piece and they read from 1.020 to 1.028.

pretty sure they are in trash...or very least in the bottom of a junk box.

Actually, I am fairly good at math, at least I use to be. I had my hydrometer and I wasn't to sure about the accuracy of it, so I had a sample checked when I was at Saltwater City and it was off, so I adjusted what I was reading. It must have been okay, because my tank is beautiful and everyone is healthy. Now I have my refractometer and the readings are still different, but they are showing the same difference as before.

I think it is like anything else, you get better quality the more you can afford, (in most cases) A hydrometer was all I could afford when I got into this hobby and I didn't really know the difference, but the more I learned, the more I wanted one. I waited until I could afford one and found one at the right price.

Wish lorrie alwould chime in again about the millwalkie ones. I saw them on marine depot and it caught my eye.
I also have hydrometers based on price.
And also now on accuracy.
When I was going to get one I didn't like how my buddy always had to calibrate his. I eventually will get one tho.

You know, I calibrate my Milwaulkee two or three times a year with RODI water. I mix my saltwater and keep my tanks at 1.025-1.026.

ah, yes I check my manual refractometer from time to time too. actually rarlely use the digital cuz you do have to calibrate with rodi/distilled water before every check. sure was nice for hyop though!

I have a digital thermometer that does temp, salinity, and specific gravity. It goes down to 1.000
