There's an excellent chapter here titled 'Travels Solar: Coral Gardens of Good and Evil - Belize and Bonaire':

The View from Lazy Point; A Natural Year in an Unnatural World | Carl Safina

Spiffluk, you constantly post here these type of links environmental issues and similar types but why don't you pick a reefing topic and share some of your knowledge with us, maybe in the general forum or advanced even. There is no harm in discussions reef related and I'm sure than rather just supply links It would be very interesting for you to share your thoughts on these subjects, lets get into some details and see what is going on. These impact everyone but in the reefing world we're impacted directly, so maybe this would be something interesting we could talk about, I think you post lots of potential, so Don't be afraid, lets get some discussions going on, I think we would all like to see what you have to share.

I've been through this debate before...if you can, please look up some of my prior responses to suggestions similar to yours. Suffice it to say for now that I don't feel that I have anything relevant to add to the rich lode of 'how to' reefing topics within RF, and that I don't add lengthy comments to the articles and links I post because usually they are much better written than anything I can write. Having said that, if you want to look up that 'View from Lazy Point' chapter and talk about it, I'd be happy to oblige.

There may well be an excellent chapter, in this book. However, your link doesn't provide us with that chapter. Your link is basically to a synopsis of the book, along with reviews of the book. I see nothing about

on the link you provided.

Basically, your link could be viewed as advertising, for the author.

You mentioned, in another thread, your concern of being 'censored.' You do realize, to be censored, you'd have to actually have to contribute something, other than just posting links. Let's say that a thread, that you created, with nothing but a link on it, were to be removed. That wouldn't be censoring you, because you didn't actually say anything...lol. See my point?

Instead of JUST posting links, why not provide us with your view on the subject, or at least an indication of what the subject even is? Try to actually contribute some original thought, of your own, instead of always just posting a link. We value the opinions, thoughts, expressions, etc. of all of our members. We want to know your thoughts. We don't know that, when all you post is a link.

Oh dear, this is really getting ridiculous. I'm tempted to just ignore it, but I have to say that I tried to find that particular article online but couldn't, that 'advertising' belongs in the Classifieds section, and that RF should specify a particular format for posting links if it's really that important. 'Nuff said...I have more important things to attend to.

You have the right to ignore it!

You tried to find the article, but couldn't, but still posted a link to "that article?"

Yes, advertising does belong in the Classifieds

We don't need a specific format, for posting links, but do ask that if you post a link, to a supposed topic or article, that the link be related to the topic or article.

The above mentioned suggestions, that you actually post some of your own thoughts, instead of always just posting a link, were just that, "Suggestions."

Gosh, I really tried to ignore this but just can't resist...can people not buy the book from a bookstore, or check it out from the library, or borrow it from a friend? Maybe I should add something to my posted links like "Please respond only if you have something substantive to say about the specific subject I posted".

I have a sneaky suspicion that the real reason for all this fuss is that there are some people who just don't want to think or talk about anything related to the environment. I thought I could avoid interacting with those people by posting stuff on The Water Fountain (which I thought is explicitly for non-reef related topics) and by putting some warning of the subject matter on the subject line. Besides, I think I've established a reputation by now for the nature of my posts. Bottom line...if you don't want to deal with an environmentalist's views, DON'T READ MY POSTS. It's a free country, or so I thought.

OK, I really don't have time for any more of this. I just wish there were a way for you to respond or for others to weigh in without clogging up my email box.

Spiffluk, you have your "sneaky suspicion" all wrong, I'm afraid. I was actually interested in reading the article, that you tried to link. However, when I went to the link you provided, there wasn't an article, there was synopsis of a book, along with several reviews.

My first post, in this thread, was to inform you that the link you provided, didn't appear to have anything to do with the chapter you referred to. That's all.

I'm not at all anti-environmentalist. I am all for protecting our environment!

Ummm, maybe you should post something substantive, to begin with, instead of just posting a link!!

I know you grow tired of hearing that, as you've been hearing it, for several months now. However, on the other hand, for several months now, 90% of the threads you've started, are nothing more than a link. Shoot, in most of the threads, you didn't type a single word, just posted a link. Just something I'd like you to think about.

The spirit of Reef Frontiers, is to have "contributing members." How are YOU contributing any of your original thought, when all you do is post links?

I'll now close this thread, since it's become so 'clogged up.' Please feel free to start the thread over, if you'd like, and I'll not 'clog it up.'
