Rescued finger leather.

I rescued a 1/4" green finger leather from the LFS yesterday. They weren't too hopeful about it living, but it seems to like my tank. Is there anything I should do to keep it happy? I'm not sure about it's needs. I don't know where it should be placed either. I have a 130Watt PC with half actinics and half 10K. Thanks for any help you give!

light and medium flow. start him on the bottom,and then you can adjust him as neccesary.

Are they pretty hardy? If it grows, it will be an awesome metallic green color. What type of additives do they require for growth?? Thanks for the info!

Don't worry about additives. It's already there in your tank water.

Thats great hope it starts growing, i also Rescued a Meralina plate coral the tissue was recedind very bad so i took it in hope's of saving it, the tissue has all grown back and looks just beautiful and now given me frags, good luck.

How long does it take for a leather to attach itself to a rock?? This leather was doing fine, and I think one of my astreas knocked it. I thought it was attached, but obviously not. Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? Will this be harmful for it?? I had to handle it a little to get it back in place, but it did a pretty good job of retracting itself. This thing is so tiny, but such an awesome green. It's worth the trouble

When ever I have fraged a leather it attached to rock within 5 days. Leathers are tough as nails IMHO. You can even put it so the stalk is touching rock and it will reorient to the light. I have had the best luck with mine, low in the tank, with med, not direct current. They also look great under a moonlight at night. Steve

Is there any way to help it attach?? glue or something?? I lost it last night. I was so sad, but this morning I got the turkey baster in the crevices and it floated up. I was extatic! I need it to attach because the current carries it away very easily. Thanks!

Becky, I used a rubber band last time, however it cut the frags in half and then I had more. They did attach, but it cut them in half. A lady from R.F.s said to try briadal veil or hair net to hold it down and rubberband the net or veil. I have not done that yet though it sounds like it will work as well. Hope that helps you. take 2 small rocks and place them together and lightly rubber band together. open them with your fingers slightly and place the leather inbetween, this will hold him without cutting into him.

Well, the methods mentioned to get the leather stable and attached just wouldn't work. The little leather is just to small. The current kept upsetting it and sweeping it around the tank. I used a teeny bit of glue on a rock and it worked. It's looking happy and healthy. I don't know if you're actually supposed to do that or not, but it seems to be working. It's not blowing around anymore. Thanks for the help!
