I need a new return pump. Had a MAG 5 that lasted 4 years, last two Mag5's keep seizing up once the pump is turned off. The old pump had a metal spindle, the two newer one's have a ceramic spindle that seems to get stuck. I'm tried of dealing with it and would like your opinion of what I should get. Actually now that I look at the box I think my LFS went with some chineese knock off.

Not sure about the quite one pump. Eheim costs a bit more, but compare the wattage consumption on the two pumps. The eheim I know has very low wattage, so it costs less to run. This saves you money over the long term. Since it is a piece that is always on, it pays to spend a bit more up front for a more effecient pump.

Also, less wattage means less heat in your tank, if you run it submerged like I do.

JR,

Yep, I'm running it submerged also. Looks like it's going to eb the eheim! I'm ordering tonight with express delivery, not sure the MAG 5 is going to make it more than a day or two. Damn thing is clicking and popping.

Thanks

CJ

I have been running two Eheim 1262 for 5 years straight without any issues. It is very quite....great pumps!

I read through a 20L sump that you only need like 300gph running through it, so would a 1250 eheim work?

I have a 600 or 800 gph return pump that you can snag for $20 to $25 plus shipping. Just thought I would throw that out there for you.
