The water from my tap registers about 038-040 ppm on my TDS meter.

The water FRESH out of my RO/DI unit reads about 001 ppm, good so far.

But when I check water in my holding can for fresh water top-off/water that will be mixed into seawater in another rubbermaid it reads about 15 ppm.

Do you think I have something in the can, or does "stuff" just fall out of the air, lol, (I generally keep it covered btw).

Why is my TDS climbing when water sits after being filtered?...curious I don't post much here btw but I lurk alot. Good forum. Lag.

Every now & then you have to clean the tub, scrub it good rinse well then last rinse with ro/di well, this should bring it back down & keep it covered.

Is it a food safe brute rubbermaid containor or just a rubber maid. Danny used the storage for under beds and it messed his ro water.

They are two 20 gallon rubbermaid trash cans I got from Home Depot new for this pupose. Damn...you aren't thinking they leech lead or something are you?

Go to HD & read the tag on them & see what they are made of, if you washed them well I think you would be ok, now some of the no name brands may be different.

Are they the hard grey ones or the soft green, brown, or black ones. The hard thick grey is inert food safe plastic. The soft G,B,B, ones have softeners in the plastic. At least that is my understanding.

if you want to rule out the container....get a glass container ( drinking glass, pitcher, whatever) and rinse it out real well with RO/DI water straight from the filter, NOT from the container in question, then fill it straight from the filter...and then compare the TDS readings....

I had a tan one, I would test it regular, it was coated but I did some serious cleaning & it tested clean but after mixing salt water mix in it over time I'd have to clean it throughly & I never let the water sit long in the can I'd say next time I'll make sure it is brute.

Well they are the Brute ones. I got them because they were stout, well built, and kinda' expensive. They looked like they would have the least problems and would stand up to the intended purpose. I'll have to do some testing with another container but this is...curious...

After reading this post..I too was also curious w/my container. I am using Instant Ocean, and water that goes through 2 RO filters and 2 Big DI filters(from work). The can I have is fairly new, it is a 32 gallon Brute rubbermaid, and I didn't rinse it out at all before using it. I tested for phosphate and got a reading of 0.6. I will have to completely rinse it and then fill it again, and re-test and see what happens.

What effect does disolved CO2 have on TDS readings?

Since a TDS meter is basically measuring conductivity, increasing disloved CO2 over time (for example, as fresh RODI water sits there with a surface open to air), the TDS reading should increase. I just don't know how much.

See I dont understand that. I have three 44 gallon brute containors. One is for fresh ro, one is for mixing salt, and one is for draining water into and dumping. My ro water will sit over the weekend quite often. It test zero during the week when its making, it tests zero on monday when I fill my jugs.

Those are fairly large volumes with low surface area. Do you have covers on the containers? Is all that bluegrass in the area sucking CO2 out of the air?
