RO/DI waste water?

What is everyone doing with their waste water from their RO/DI? I don't like dumping all that water down the drain and was wondering if anyone was doing anything with their water? I plan to use some of it for the garden in the summer but what about winter?

Collect it and use it as water for washing clothes. Flushing toilets, etc etc etc

Well I have our RO/DI unit in the laundry room and if I remember I pull the waste line and stick it in the washing machine if I am about to wash a load if not it goes down the washer's waste water line

wife uses most of it for watering the plants and soaking clothes before washing them depending on how much I make.

Helps fill the dogs bowl too.

With the new auto top off I am looking to add a holding tank for this water

Put a second RO cart on the waste water and capture some of it! This will also effectively double your production

Absolutely, and recommended if you have them.
If I recall, DonW once tried three in a row.

Works fine without a pump as long as you don't have an auto shut off valve on it.
Restricting the waste typically increases the GPD but lowers the purity and life of the membrane.

= yessssss,,,, ,but......


respectfully, the life of the second membrane will be reduced, with the input @ 200tds coming from the first membrane. BUT many systems operate with tds as high or more so in the first place. I also make sure to run a higher rejection (96%+) membrane in both positions, so the water going into my (2 stage) DI is at a max of 9tds. If anything, done poorly the DI will expire faster.

Mine fills the washing machine most of the time; I also capture it in a bucket to wash the truck with, and water the plants in the summer.

My waste water waters the side of the house.....where nothing grows because thats where water change water goes too.....Maybe i'll plant some brackish plants and call it a swamp

You've got me thinking. I think mine goes down the drain, what a waste! Never thought about it. But sure will now, gotta think of something to do with it instead of pure waste. Shame on me!

I've seen some systems that have 2 check valves on the wast line and then the wast line is tapped into the hot water supply of your sink. Anyone else seen this or have experience with it?
