Now that my ro/di unit is on the way is there anything I need to do to the water before I add salt? I guess Im going to stay with Oceanic salt for now with the ro water...

Have you read up on other peoples experince with oceanic salts?
If not it could help you to do so.

Well I found some posts about Oceanic salt and they dont look promising when it comes to the algae outbreaks that I am experiencing.Although my corals are doing well... Before I run out of salt can someone offer advice for a different salt mix... Im leaning toward IO brand or reef crystals...

Personally I use Instant Ocean. I think it has better quality control than the others. I would really do some research before using that salt.

With that being said, I always test my ready made salt water to ensure the alkalinity, calcium and magnesium are at the same level as the tank water. If the water change water is not then I dose it to bring it to the proper level.

It works well for me. Other than that I don't do anything else. I keep a 44 gallon brute can full of mixed salt water for weekly water changes. Once it is mixed I only keep a heater in the can to keep it at temp. The day before the water change I turn a power head on and an air stone.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Pat
