I am thinking of building an RO topoff unit and would like to get some ideas. I am currently thinking of mounting a plastic resavoir that hangs from the top of the inside of my stand with a simple gravity feed through a tube to a cutoff valve. Where would I get a good, reliable cutoff valve?????

Just use the reservoir and drip into the sump. Anything can be used even a knot in airline tubing. If you are adding Kalk at the same time be sure to drip overnight when the lights are off.

The smaller it is the more you have to refill it. I went to a 55g water drum and love it. I know that available room plays a part. If the source is high enough it can be placed in another room with airline tubing attached.

why use a reservor? do it right and go with a selonoid valve ATO unit. they are self suffecient and never need a reservor..

I use a resevoir for RO/DI because it allows me to have 55 gallons on hand for water changes, rinsing carbon, food and test vials and the occasional glass of ice water for me. I also bleed off a couple gallons when filling to avoid TDS creep. My whole barrel is at 0 TDS. There is a ball valve with spigot in the side for easy access to the water.

The float switch in the sump is connected to a 12v relay which powers a mj1200 in the bottom of the barrel with 1/8" line going to the sump. The barrel also feeds the perisalic pump for my Kalk reactor.

The barrel serves as far more than just a water container and is invaluable to making my life alot easier.

I also have a maxi1200 in the bottem.. custom Diy adaptor to 1/4" line then i run the 1/4 line about 25ft to the solenoid then it goes to the sump.

i dont have 55g mines only 38g i make water once a week for about 12hrs

In general i thinking haveing some fresh water warmed up is a good thing.
circulated and aerated temp maintained at 80

Hey Matt, not completely sure what you mean, but using a straight line with a solenoid and no revervoir would mean that your water purification unit would be cycling on and off quite often and lead to significant TDS creep. In other words, every time it starts up, there is some high TDS water getting through and the more often that happens the lower the quality is of your final product.

This stuff is a little old, but gives the basic idea and the only changes I have made are just minor upgrades.

wow.... great info!!

i just learned something

so 200feet of the Inlet line raped in the Holding tank (which is at temp) thus warming the incomeing line water temp.... Thats ! great!! woot! FTW

im gonna copy that off ya buddy sorry..

It can also help alleviate hammering but I wouldn't rape it. That seems a bit over-the-top to me.
