Hey all

After lots of chats I know that I have to pick something up to help with my algae issue but I don't know what to get. I have been looking around and I see there are a few different things out there.

here is something I am thinking about

http://www.jlaquatics.com/product/vt-ro100/Vertex+Puratek+Reverse+Osmosis+(RO)+Filter+-+100GPD.html

I am just wondering if this will help or not. This is ONLY an ro NOT and ro/di but I am don't have 350 bucks to drop on the ro/di version of this thing.

Any thoughts?

You can actually get RO/DI for pretty close price to what you linked to, such as these: http://buckeyefieldsupply.com/showproducts.asp?Category=167&Sub=166

Usually the more expensive units will come with an extra stage, pressure gauge, TDS meter, flush valve, etc, etc... There is some value in those extras, but of course you pay for them. Good thing is RO & RO/DI units are all modular, so you can add on to them later should you decide to.

A lot of RO/DI vendors have very good reputations for working with customers to find the right RO/DI unit to fit your needs and budget. May be worthwhile to shoot them an email and let them know what your budget is & see what they recommend.

HTH,

Rob

I have a 5 stage RO/DI unit that was purchased from melevsreef.com for $169. It has been working fine for the last 2 years. I just replaced the membrane a couple of months ago but our water pressure and TDS are pretty bad here.

Marc from Melevsreef is great.
Another source to call is thefilterguys.com I had a great experience with them, they got me all setup, for less money then I intended to spend. They explained why I didn't need all the stuff I was going to buy from them :)
Really easy to talk to and very helpful.
