rose bubble tip anemone help

I purchased it about two weeks ago n up until a few days ago it looked great, tested my water nitrates below 5ppm, kh 6.5 added buffer, phosphate was about 1, and my main concern was my calcium was 520 which its normally. 450. It has not closed down but since i had it seems to be trying to hide from the light which I thought was weird cuz they need light n I'm only running t5s ho. The tips have gotten really small n look opaque rather than vibrant. Any ideas?

what are you feeding it and is it getting blasted with flow or maybe not enough flow

it should be getting adequate flow where it is but i will try changing it to see if it helps, and i am feeding frozen mysis shrimp and frozen silver type of fish, the LFS recommended it for the anemone.

My tank-
30g with one maxijet 900 soon will replace with two nano korallias, t5 ho light, about 60lbs of LR, one clarki clown, RTBA, green star polyp, another green coral, snails and hermits and thats all i have for now. I have a 20g refuge that has a dsb, chaeto and mangroves, and a proclear 75 skimmer nothing great but it works pretty well.

how long has your tank been running

almost a year, i know they are more for established aqauriums but i had one before that i had gotten from a friend that did awesome and gave it back once he got his new tank set up so i figured that it would be ok.

you should be fine at a year running, the Muckleshoot Casino just put a beautiful SW mixed reef tank in thier new Asian reasturant and they told me that the first thing they put in was their 10"+ RBTA, it looked well for the time being.

I would just watch it. Sometimes they look like they are dying, but really they are just flushing themselves out. As for flow and light they tend to move where they are most happy with both. I had one good size one and thought it was dying, but in about an hour or less I had three of them. Some people also say they will shrivel up and kind of go on vacation in a sense. Another tip I read and heard is make sure the food is not to big. I have read that if the food is to big it can damage the mouth of them or they get overfeed and end up throwing up all their food. Not sure if this is true or not.

ya i have a hard time getting it to eat even if i cut the silversides up into small pieces it always spits it out, same with the mysis and my clown keeps brining the food back but it will not take it only a small small piece here n there so i think that could also be the issue, what do you guys feed yours?

I make my own food which consist of blended up: Fish, clams, shrimp, squid, mussels, and I also throw some formula one in there. Sometimes a little garlic juice and carrot juice. I feed the tank and the RBTAs this. I thing I found out that works well with clowns and anemones when feeding try to feed your clown on one side of the tank and then try to feed the RBTA while the clown is busy ( my clown used to steel the anemones food thinking he/she was cleaning its home) . I have read and heard that smaller shredded foods are easier. People also say if your lighting is strong enough then you really do not need to feed them all that much unless you want them to get huge.

if it spits it out then the pieces are to big, be careful not to overfeed or it will rot

ok, il try small pieces the next time, so how often should i feed the anemone to be on the safe side, he is looking pretty bad n hasnt closed up so im not sure i was gonna give it a couple more days and if it doesnt get better i was gonna take it back to the LFS, i dont want it to die because of my lack of experience. with good lighting 1 a month is what i have been told, if clown are hosting then i heard you don't even have to feed cause clowns provide the nem with food

Ya thats what i thought i never had to feed my other one i guess i just got one that was not healthy, although it was healthy in the store for about 2 weeks. I double checked my water the only thing off was the phosphates which were about 1ppm and that wouldnt hurt the anemone would it? i cant figure it out i have 2x24w t5 ho lighting and its in direct lighting not covered n has decent flow, my clown is hosting but wont feed, i have seen the clown bring it food and it still will not accept it.

It may not be getting enough light. 2X24 T5HO isn't much. You should be able to fit at least 4 bulbs over that tank. T5HO is great lighting, and capable of supplying plenty of light, IF each bulb is individually reflected AND if you're putting enough bulbs over the tank.

Sometimes they can just be moody fellas I just changed out my T5 bulbs and my 2 are throwing a tissy fit and moved to the back of the tank. It sounds like you have everything in line for what it needs, it's probably just adjustment to new tank.

Well I hope its just an adjustment to the tank. Also how much lightning would u recommend? I can't afford hailides. N for an update still will not eat tried small pieces of all sorts of different things.

If its hiding from the light, its probably acclimating to more intense lighting than its used to. How long was it in the store and what kind of lighting did they have it under?
