I always seem to get conflicting results, for example tonight.
420 ca Low resolution
370 ca High resolution
Three time for each test, same results.
Which one should I trust.

I always do the high res. test. Something that I think Colin or Boomer were talking about is to keep a log of tests and then look at a average vs. acting on one test. Since you did three of each, if all three high res tests came out the same I bet that is the true answer. If there was variation in the three high res. tests I would avg. the three and see what I got. HTH. Steve
 
High resolution is more accurate per Habib (owner of Salifert). In one of his responses on RC, he gave the accuracy of both tests. If I remember correctly the accuracy of the low resolution was twice the high resolution (ie - if the low resolution had an accuracy of 10% then the high resolution had an accuracy of 5%). I remember reading the thread and deciding just to use high resolution.

An easy way to remember this is when you change your computer monitor to a high resolution (800 x 600 to 1024 x 680) you see more detail.

That difference is too large. A difference between the two modes of upto 20 ppm is acceptable since the normal resolution gives a resolution f approx 10 ppm and the low res gives a resolution of 20 ppm. Actually the typical resolutions are in reality much better.


Don, which version do you have? The old version has Ca-2 as a powder and the new version has Ca-1 as the powder.

Let me know and I'll try to guide you to obtain almost similar results using both modes. :)

Its the new design. #1 is the powder then 4/8 drops #2. Ive actually never run the high resolution test before last night (saving regents). I've done the low hundreds of times and was supprised by the results. I ran both three times with the same results.

Habib most of us here use your testing equipment. It would be nice to have a sponsors forum where we could ask direct questions. Hint Hint..

Right now we have already much work with giving product support on RC and a Dutch forum. However, I'll sure consider Reef frontiers in the near future when we have more capacity/time for support on forums. :)

OK Don, when using the low resolution the value from the table has to be mulyiplied by 2. This means all errors/mistakes are also multiplied by 2. Some can cancel each other and some can add to it.


Having said that, make sure that the air bubble is in the 2 ml syringe. That is don't purge it. However make sure that the tip is kept in the water while drawing in the sample.

When adding the Ca-3 it will take 1 - 2 drops for the color to change from purple to blue.

After the color has changed look for liquid drops at the side of the test vial. If there are any then tilt the test vial slightly to include those drops in the solution. This might casue the color to change back to purple or even pink. Add some more Ca-3 in such a case.


Also make sure that syringes are read at the black ring for the 1 ml syringe and at the bottom of the piston (flat portion) for the 2 ml syringe.


This should allow to make highly accurate measurements and obtaining comparble values using both modes with the difference being quite small.
