I'm going to do a remodel (add a sump, re aquascape etc.) on my 29gal Bio Cube. I read on Melvs reef about rinsing your sand (Melevsreef.com - Rinsing Sand) am I better of doing that or just getting new live sand? I don't want to start a cycle. When I moved my 40 to my 40B I got new sand & did not have any problems, but why spend money needlessly. My sand now is about 3 years old. What's your thoughts?

im not clear on the question....do you want to use the existing sand in the 29g and reuse in the same tank?? or is this sand coming from another tank??

Wow. I need to start proof reading! I confused myself there. Yes, I'm thinking of using the same sand, same tank. What I'm going to do is break it down & drill the back for a 1" bulkhead.

Ah..OK...rinsing it with RO water should be sufficient,,will have to go thru another cycle though...

The only problem I can see come into play is if you have a deep sand bed and you mess with it. Typically you don't stirr or mess with the lower regions (anaerobic regions) of a dsb otherwise you will fall into major problems. :)
