Yeah its Caribbean live sand. So its not completely black sand. I'm also waiting for a vor-tec powerhead to come in the mail. Everything is just waiting on that part and My protein skimmer, and then I will be posting step by step pics of setting it up, And starting the cycling process

Vortech??? Nice!!! Which one? Prepare for a sandstorm like you see on the Sahara Desert!!

Did you pay more for your powerhead than you did your tank???? LoL

+ 1 on the sand storm. I think no matter where you place the powerhead in that size tank you will have sand blowing around.

I would not dose anything to start. Everything you need to be dosing is in your salt mix. Frequent water changes will replenish the levels just fine until your tank is stocked and your corals start depleting them. Then you might want to look into dosing alk/cal/mag. >NEVER DOSE ANYTHING WITHOUT TESTING FOR IT<

I'm getting the one that's rated for 2.5 gal to 50 gal. Unless someone can steer me in the direction of other magnet held power heads

I put the MP40 on my 6 foot 215g tank. I had white sugar sized sand. Notice the word "had"? It is placed about 8" down from the surface and when I turned it on, it looked like the inside of a snow globe, or washington not too long ago:D
I took it ALL out and wont go back! My wife dont like it though.
Mr. Krish. I told my wife about your pvc board in your tank and showed her the pictures you have of it. She liked it, but, she wanted me to ask you if it would look more natural after its siliconed down, to smea a thin layer of epoxy down and sprinkle it with some sand? What you think?

I guess I must be confused, why make the gph adjustable from 2.5 gal to a 50 gal, even with the 15X the flow rate for a 2.5 would be 37.5gph. I honestly don't see how I could sand storm it. Maybe someone with a vortech should post some pics or a video. So I can decide if I'm sending it pack and just moding a nano Koralife powerhead

Just test it out and see what it does since you ordered it already. You will probably have to place it high and throttle it back. :)

It will work fine in your tank. They are very versatile. I used mine on full blast in a 20x16x12 bare bottom with no splash over or anything.

I've had a sand bed for the last 4 years of having a tank. About 3 months ago i finally got fed up with keeping it clean, and there's always spots you couldn't clean (under rocks). So i pulled it all out, re-aquascaped, and can now say i will probably never put sand in a tank again. Love the BB look and love that i can point powerheads down =)

You're a good man!!! Bless your heart!! :p

Yeah vortech created a storm. I tested it in my buddys 40 gallon tank. So I sent it back and just went up the lfs. We sold be a ocean something for 15 bucks said it would work fine in my tank

A who?? Hope they didn't sell you an air pump and an air stone :p. How much flow does this thing produce and does it put out a narrow stream like a maxijet or broad stream like the vortech does? Maybe post a picture. :)

Yeah I'm getting the live rock tomorrow. I still have to do the pvc on the bottom of the tank. So by tomorrow everything should be ready. And if it sand storms in the tank I'm taking the sand out lol. You may have converted me quicker than I thought lol

You can put whatever on the bottom. I use PVC board because I can get it in white and gives the illusion of sand. Another reason for using something other than bare glass is if a rock falls, you won't risk cracking the tank bottom. :)

Oh the LFS I go to said to by foam like 10mm thick, to place under the acrylic to give cushion for the sand and live rock in it. Because of the almost half inch in between the bottom of the tank and the stand. But he said stick in in the tank the place the acrylic over that, and silicon it up. I'm almost wondering if I should place the foam under the tank its self, and then just place the acrylic on the glass itself? Input
