I saw this and wondered what care it required. Any idea what it is actually named? Majestic maroon sea fan just doesn't turn up much useful.

Shanon,

I'm horrible at names, but it looks to be some type of gorgonian, possiblly Melithaea Sp.??? A close up would probably help those in the "know"... but probably wouldn't help me any. ;)

Do you know which part of the world it came from, this may help with the identification.

Sorry Ed
I can't answer your location question. I stole the pic from Extreme Corals. It's such a beautiful specimen I wanted to look up more info on it to see what care it might require and does it do well in captivity.

That's wise Shanon. Many gorgonians are azooxanthellate (non-photosynthetic) and it's hard for most of our tanks to provide enough plankton for them to survive. You are definately better off if the species this is is photosynthetic.

check out the gorgonian section of the library (near the bottom). That might help. http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45
