I have had 2 scissortails for quite a while and when I started up the tank this morning they were gone. There is no way for them to jump out, no way for them to get into any of the intakes (they're a bit too big) and there were no dead scissors anywhere in the tank.

Now I have had the same thing happen to my Sleeper Gobie and it resurfaces about a week or so later from under one of the LRs, but do scissortails go underground for any length of time like the sleeper? All the tank parameters are fine, lighting, flow and chemistry--And everyone was feeding great the night before--but come breakfast--No Scissortails. I believe they are a mated pair, but dissappearing both at the same time? Do thye breed in captivity or are they just on a long date? :}

Seriously, anyone have any clus of what I should do?

Thanks in advance, MadSkye.

I have 3 large scissortails and two bar gobies and they all have homes under LR. The scissors all stay in the same hole. They are out most of the time but do spend some time under the rock during the day. They are always hiding at night. They always come out when ever food is added. I do have one that has made the trip over the overflow, down the drain pipe, and into my sump refugium, they are full grown and I did'nt think they would fit through the slots but they doshock:. Keep an eye out they should show up.:

Yes! they have re appeared and just in time for the noon feeding, surprise.

I was pretty sure they were under the rock but they had never missed a feeding before so I go a bit perplexed.

I have sevral sand lovers in my tank so I guess I will have to expect them to dissappear from time to time.

thanks for the reply!

Welcome to Reef Frontiers Madskye! :) They can stay underground for up to one week. They are members of the Dartfish family and are notorious jumpers.

Kevin
