SCUBA equipment

I"m not sure if this is the right board to post this on, but I'm looking for some recommendations as far as brands of SCUBA equipment to buy. My fiancee and I went to the Underwater Sports fair today and signed up for lessons. We also bought the required equipment (mask, fins, snorkle, booties and gloves.)

Can anyone give any feedback on the following items (how do they work, is there something better out there in the same price range?)

High Tide Pro Titanium boots
AquaLung Impulse Dry snorkle
High Tide Pro Sea-scale golves
Mares Avanti X-3 fins

Almost all of my scuba gear is Dacor....I'm happy with it, it has given me many years of reliable service....

I read your post! Here's your chance to buy about $4500 dollars worth of gear for the low proce of $1800. I have everything you would need. I have only used the gear no more than 13 or fourteen times. I have a dry suite, insert, 2 top of the line masks, 2 sets of fins, Booties, BC Ranger, Top of the line Regulator, Alladin Dive computer. THis computer will tell you everything. Plus much much more. Comes with two heavy duty bags. If you give me a reply and see the equipment you will want it. Also forgot to mention Dive tank, Aluminum. Flugalness, welcome to the world of diving!! I'm the one that moved to Cozumel, Mexico for 2 years and dove to my heart's content!

Just a hint, if you've never tried to dive and don't know if you like it yet, don't put that much money into the gear. Diving isnt' for everyone.

As for the gear, the one recommendation that I have is not to go with those "split-fin" fins that mares makes. I've seen lots of divers get them and they find that they don't have as much power or control as the normal fins.

Snorkel: I hear the dry snorkels work pretty well, but I just went with the tube snorkel. Honestly, I don't really remember using it much, but perhaps in other parts of the world, you might need it more. Unless I was out snorkeling, most of the time the boat was right there to pick me up. Oh yea, and I always have more than enough air left in the tank (which isn't typical of most people...)

In the end, you need to go with what is the most comfortable, has the least moving parts that could break and is easy to use.

Have been diving for many years. I agree with achu. dont go buying anything else yet. Fins, mask,snorkel are essential and should be your personal favorites. Just try a bunch on and buy the ones that feel the best. As for the rest of the gear, very high quality equipment can be rented at any reputable dive shop.. use theirs, see what works best for you. Finally, unless you are off on a major multiple day trip and dont plan on being with a guide, dont get a computer yet. Learn how to read and use the tables. You never know when the computer might go and you are forced to do it the old fashioned way. Later on, down the road, then buy the best equipment you can afford.

ive been diving twice here in the pnw and i planned on going to cozumel.

Its not natural, or ur brain dosent think to breath underwater. Deff one of the more harder things ive done in my young life.

Just finished my advanced open water cert and loved the dives. One of my DM's goes to Cozumel often. I'm getting setup now for 6 dives in 3 days in Malta

take your time on buying gear. and dont just go cheap. some of the less expensive are good. check more than one shop. come down to Tacoma some time to Tacoma scuba. its on center st close to m st. check prices and gear so that when you do buy you know whats out there. if you want to go tech some time, then halcyon is a way to go, and its not that much more money. have fun looking before you buy and you wont be sorry.
