Scum on the water

Anyone remember that old Deep Purple song...Scum on the wa....no wait that was Smoke on the water. Anyway. I have a lot of brown scum like material floating on the top of my reef tank. It has been running very clean for many months and my nitrates are below 10ppm. Any idea what it is?

If its the same I had its excess organics. Point a powerhead at the surface to increase aggitation and help get it in to the sump so the skimmer can do its magic

change your carbon, see if that doesnt remove it...

carbon should be rinsed 1ce a week and changed every 2 weeks.

do you have a sump? The over flows should suck it down into the sump for the skimmer and charcoal to deal with

Must have an overflow of some kind to skim your waters surface. Otherwise surface flow just pushes it around.
