figured id start a tank thread here and have been doing major work to this tank. lighting: so as of late ive changed the lighting to OBD led fixtures. these are some of the best available only using 40% of there capability and have 400 par at top of rock work. filtration: updating the filtration today! was using a 3 stage canister filter. but no more im installing a series of 4 reactors. 1tlf 300 kalk reactor on the ATO system has auto sprinkler stirrer. a brs duel reactor with gfo and carbon. and finally a modded next reef reactor for use with bio pellets. my sump is a pro flex 3 sump. skimmer is SWC 160 cone. im using a coralife uv sterilizer. all i need to finish my filtration is a ehiem 1262 return pump and ozone with orp controller. also plan to restart my fuge. for 2 reasons rally to kill all the kalerpa. and get the sand and rock out and replace it with Fiji mud. reef keeper light operates/monitors the tank. power heads: 2 12000L/H sun sun power heads ebay special. hope to get 2 mp 40's to replace them in the verry near future. more updates to come in the near future: i will be slowly very slowly be pulling out all of the crushed coral substrate out of the display and replace it with black sand. my plan is 2 pull out 1 lb of crushed that is in it a day then let it go bare bottom for a month then replace the sand 10lbs every other day. now ill start posting pics some old and some new. slp ask all questions comments and concerns. ive only been reefing for 6 mos and still learning everyday. i make it a point to do 4 hrs or research and watch videos everyday. knowledge is bliss. i listen to what every1 has to say but with a grain of salt. i take notice what is repeated and such. im no dummie. actually aced my SAT's and have a bachelors in bio chemistry and plant science. but to quit beating my own drum on with the pictures!!!

Tank is looking great Nick. Your bubble tip looks good and bubbly :)

best thing ever. reminds me i have to pay them off. ill se ya soon OBD today or tomm.

Nick, just wondering if it is good practice to run the Bio Pellet Reactor with a fuge connected to the system? Are they not both competing for the same nutrients?
I thought I read somewhere that it wouldnt work.

supposedly the macroalgae in the fuge will die with the bio pellet reactor connected, however i have not experienced this with my fuge but it is not that big of a fuge to make a difference...heck, i even have a ozone reactor connected which should definitely kill the algae in the fuge, but so far so good.

well ill test this first hand as next week ill be complrrtly redoing the fuge. with fiji mud and all new red macros so devin be ready

ordered Fiji mud and waste away today tanks going to be epic when it ages with time now. now to save for the sand change and mp 40's. on the sand change topic has anybody done this. and give pointers on it would be awesome.

I removed all the sand from my 215 about 9 months ago. I was bare bottom for a few months, didnt like it so i replaced it. Now for the more important coment. Im not saying not to use the black sand, it looks great and makes the corals more colorful, but it should be mentioned that parts of it are magnetic. Magnetic glass/acrylic cleaners and magnetic sand dont mix to good. I found this out the hard way when my daughter wanted black sand in her 20L and i put a BEAUTIFUL long scratch front and center. More of a headsup/warning than anything else.

so i have got the mud and a new fuge light. disconnected the sump and cleaned it out and removed all the calerpa. put in the new mud and wow it takes forever to clear up i vave the skimmer in it now removeing the cludyness and seems to be working this is the sump this morning.
